Born in 1972, he received his bachelor’s in visual arts (sculpture) from the Government College of Art and Craft, Kolkata, and his master’s in fine arts from Banaras Hindu University (BHU). Felicitations include a Junior Research Fellowship from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India; the All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society (AIFACS) award; the Governor’s Award for the best exhibit at the annual exhibition of the Government College of Art and Craft, Kolkata; the President of Society Award at the annual exhibition of the SOCiety of Oriental Art and Craft, Kolkata; and the Dhoomimal Memorial Award, New Delhi. He has held various solo exhibitions and participated in group shows with other contemporary artists. He received the Harmony Art Award in 2006. In his recent works, Tapas lays emphasis on the technique of metal casting. At the same time, he tries to find a way to maximise the use of metal. The form and incorporating elements of his works are developed through a continuous search of lines and their movements. The use of horizontal and vertical lines is the main focus in his works.
