The Gevabox—originally a Belgian design by Gevaert and made in Germany in the 1950s—was later produced in India (around 1955–60) under license, featuring “Made in India” stamped beneath the lens after Gevaert transferred production tools there.
What makes the Indian-made Gevabox special?
Medium-format box camera using 120 film, commonly producing 6×6 cm or 6×9 cm negatives.
Lens & exposure: A fixed-focus meniscus lens (approximately 105 mm, f/11), with a single-speed shutter plus Bulb mode—some versions offer 1/50 or 1/100 s speeds.
Body & viewfinder: Robust metal or bakelite casing with one or two basic viewfinders.
Made in India: Marketed locally by Allied Photographics Ltd in Mumbai, advertised in Sport and Pastime magazine in 1966
